Fur is beautiful...on animals!

Could you live with the fact that this fox died for you to look good?

I've been an animal rights defender all my life, so this is definately a subject I feel strongly about.
I know this is quite a lot to read, but I encourage you to read all of it.
If you already know about the industry, just read the 5 steps I've listed further down.
Every year millions of animals die in farms that produce fur. Before they finally die, they suffer under terrible conditions.
They're kept in extremely small cages (up to 4 animals per cage), often without any access to food or water. And in many cases they start to eat each other or themselves because of hunger. Many animals live in these cages from they're born to they finally face a painful death. To kill the animals without damaging the fur, they're often strangled, stepped on, drowned, or beaten to death. And the animals are also often skinned while still alive, because the farmers use cheap or expiered poisons that doesn't work proporly.
Of course the conditions aren't this bad at every single fur farm. But even in one of the richest contries of the world, Norway, the animals suffer terribly.. I'm glad to say that in contries like Sweden, England and Holland fur farms are illegal! Hopefully, very soon more contries such as Norway will follow their good examples!
Here's a few tips that you should follow if you want to improve;
- Many women (like my grandmother) has an old fur hanging in their closet. If you know someone who doesn't wear their fur, why not encourage them to donate it to PETA (http://www.furisdead.com/donate.asp) or to some other place where they recycle fur. Then the fur either goes to homeless people who needs it, or it can be recycled into a new coat (this saves the lives of about 10 animals).
- If you really want a fur, it's much better to buy fake or vintage instead of a new one (but fake fur is the best alternative, of course)
- Join demonstrations against fur. There was a big one in Oslo a few days ago, next time there's something similar; bring all of your friends with you! The more people who join this demonstrations, the bigger message we're sending out!
- Support animal rights organisations like; PETA, NOAH, WWF, etc.
- Talk about and discuss the cruel fur industry at school and with friends and family
